COMPETITION FORMAT

  • Players must provide their own paddles. (Sandpaper paddles are not allowed.) Balls will be provided.
  • Athletes may enter singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events in the Kansas Senior Games. Those entering doubles must designate their partners on their entry forms. No partners will be assigned and no partner changes may be made after the entry deadline. Athletes may compete with only one partner per event.
  • For Doubles events the age of the youngest partner as of December 31, 2017 determines the age division for competition.
  • Tournament format will be round robin (pool play), with a single elimination championship bracket if needed.
  • Play shall consist of a five-game match. The winner shall be the first player to win three games.
  • A game is won by the first player to score 11 points, unless both players have scored 10 points. In that situation, the serve changes each point and the winner is the first player to score a two-point lead.
  • Play shall be continuous throughout the match with a two-minute break between games.
  • White shirts, jackets, pants, or shorts are not permitted for competition per USA Table Tennis rules.
  • Competition must take place to determine winners. If there is only one individual entered in an age division. That athlete must complete the event in order to receive the gold medal. The athlete will be placed with the closest age category to compete with – but not against – those athletes. Hence, there may be two gold medals awarded in such an event, and the win-loss record will not be considered.
  • The expedite system shall not be in effect with the following exception. The Sports Commissioner may invoke the system to keep the tournament on schedule. The system may be placed in effect during a match, but must not be placed in effect in the middle of a game.
  • All matches will be conducted in accordance with the USA Table Tennis rules, except as modified herein. Please visit www.teamusa.org/USA-Table-Tennis for a copy of these rules.
